Gigeez was born from childhood memories.

Its creator, Stéphanie Bourland, grew up between the United States, France, and Italy—specifically on the shores of Lake Maggiore, in a small village called Cannobio.

Gigeez is fueled by the nostalgia of a childhood spent near the lake, lulled by the gentle lapping of the water and the distant buzz of lively summer nights. A mix of oriental fragrances, lacquered hairdos, colorful Turkish cigarettes, and Italian soundtracks... Slim Aarons wasn’t far off.

After working several years at LVMH in Paris, then in New York and London, Stéphanie discovered Qatar, where her projects took her to India and Vietnam. There, she found the colors of her childhood in the fabrics—the saris reminded her of the vibrant long dresses worn by her mother and aunts. The swirling colors of the saris and the grace of Indian women moved her deeply.

A gift from a Japanese friend—a simple, flowing dress—inspired her to apply that idea to saris. After much research and experimentation, guided more by intuition than expertise, Gigeez was born.

Origin of the name – Gigeez

Gigeez is, above all, musical. It echoes Dalida’s song “Gigi l’amoroso” and the American childhood expression “Gee Whiz,” a symbol of pure surprise—the French equivalent of “Ohlala!”

The promise of an adventure...

Handmade

The craftsmanship she discovered during her travels inspired Stéphanie to launch Gigeez.

In a world of global industrialization, highlighting this old-fashioned way of making things is a form of strong belief—and quiet resistance.

Each piece is unique. The saris are sourced during her travels, then hand-sewn in Qatar by local artisans.
